Hi, I’m Dr. Patrick Sartz, DC, BCN. Before I introduce myself, I would like to address a common question, why would anyone see a chiropractor for neuropathy? There are several reasons, but I will only go into a couple here. Most people are unaware that chiropractors have more hours of study obtaining their degree from chiropractic colleges than Medical Doctors, with over three times the number of hours in the study of neurology. Neurology is the primary emphasis of chiropractic schools. People may also not be aware that chiropractors can take additional courses lasting a year to three-years to become board certified in different areas of health care like neurology, orthopedics, etc. I have completed a board certification program in the diagnosis and treatment of neuropathy, thus the BCN at the end of my name. Having said all that, please note, traditional chiropractic as you think of it does nothing for neuropathy.
Chiropractors cannot prescribe medications. We must look for alternative ways of getting results that don’t just mask symptoms. We must find a way that will actually make it better naturally. This is particularly true in dealing with neuropathy, as there is no medication specifically developed for neuropathy, and the ones that are prescribed only mask the symptoms at best while doing nothing to prevent it from getting worse.
The typical experience that my patients have expressed when they first begin to have numbness or pain in their feet or hands from neuropathy is as follows: starting with their primary doctor, they may take out a pin and ask if they can feel it, maybe a tuning fork for vibration and then prescribe gabapentin or pregabalin (Lyrica) or may refer them to a neurologist. At the neurologist a nerve conduction study (EMG) is performed, and it is determined somehow following that study that the individual has neuropathy, (EMGs are not good diagnostics tools for peripheral neuropathy) and prescribe gabapentin or pregabalin (Lyrica) same as the primary doctor did. If they are not getting relief from that they think we have two of the best clinics in the world here for neurological problems, Barrow’s and Mayo. So lets go there and get some answers. So, they meet with a couple of neurologists at Mayo and are told they need to have another EMG. Once that is done they meet with their primary neurologist and are told they do have neuropathy and are then prescribed gabapentin or pregabalin (Lyrica). So now what. This is when you start searching the internet and discover chiropractors are advertising all kinds of treatments for neuropathy, so now what?
So, now let me introduce myself. I've been in practice in the Mesa/Chandler area for 37 years and began treating neuropathy in March of 2008. I am originally from eastern Montana, western North Dakota, growing up on a cattle ranch and dry land wheat farm. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State in 1977 and went to work selling medical supplies to hospitals. In 1982 I hurt my back and was scheduled for back surgery. My parents had me call my uncle in Tennessee who was a chiropractor and he gave me help finding a chiropractor here locally. I had such great results, no surgery, no long-term problems, I decided to become one. I received my doctorate degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1986. I've been married to my wife Dawn for the past 41 years. My interest in neuropathy was sparked from my mom who developed neuropathy in 1966 when I was 12 years old. It progressed for the next 33 years until her death with her spending the last 16 years of her life confined to a wheelchair. I began to try to find something to help my mother in 1986, unfortunately I didn’t find anything in time to help my mother as both my parents passed away in 1999. It wasn’t until 2006 that I found something that showed some promise and I actively started treating patients in 2008.
I have completed hundreds of hours of continuing education classes pertaining to diagnosis and treatment of peripheral neuropathy. Besides being Board Certified in Neuropathy from the American College of Physical Medicine, I am a Certified Health Consultant from Foundation of Wellness Professionals, successfully completed the certification courses from NeuroTCA and Blueprint to Neuropathy. I have taken bits and pieces from all of this to develop a successful way to treat 1000’s of neuropathy sufferers since 2008. My percentage of successful outcomes has increased throughout the years as I learn more, both in how to treat neuropathy and realizing who I cannot help. The technology involved has also improved to the point now where 98 percent of my patients enjoy a 65 to 100 percent reduction in their symptoms, and an 80 to 100 percent improvement in their balance which barring unforeseen circumstances can be maintained for life.
Here is what sets me apart from everyone else. Because I have learned the hard way and expensive way there is no cure for neuropathy. There is no in-office treatment that will provide long term results, not Sanexas, stem cell, infrared, injections, nothing, so I stopped doing in-office treatments back in 2015 and my patients have reported that the results have lasted now up to almost 9 years and going strong. My treatments are now done at home, so we can get the neuropathy under control and keep it that way. Now there are still a few office visits over a course of a year or so and I am available by phone 7 days a week so the only thing missing is the trips to the office 2 or 3 times a week and then the worry of when the neuropathy will return.
I offer a free consultation one on one with me, so I can determine if what I do will help you. About 10% of the people that suffer with neuropathy will not benefit from what I do and that is one of the reasons I do it at no charge, I won’t charge someone to tell them no I can’t help. I have gotten pretty good at determining who I can help and who I can’t. The other reason is you have probably been told by one, maybe several doctors, nothing can be done, and I want to make it as easy as possible for you to at least see what I do. I hope you will take the opportunity, my promise to you is a fair assessment, what you do with the information is totally up to you.
If you have questions, I am available by phone 7am to 8pm, seven days a week to answer them. If it is during my office hours I will call you back, if outside my office hours I’m the one that will answer the phone. After 8pm and before 7am click here and fill out the form, I will call you.
Understand neuropathy is a chronic condition, like all chronic conditions once you get it under control steps must be taken to maintain it, so it does not come back.
We are dedicated to help relieve your neuropathy.
